Dr. Lauren Mauro is a specialty care physician board-certified in internal medicine, medical oncology and hematology at Inova Health System. She joined Inova with more than 11 years of clinical experience and a special interest in the management of all types of breast cancer, from early-stage to metastatic disease.
After completing her fellowship at Johns Hopkins, Dr. Mauro was on staff as an assistant professor of medicine at the George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences in the hematology/oncology division. While at GW, she focused on breast cancer and built a strong clinical practice known for excellence in patient care. She was the principal investigator of six breast cancer clinical trials which evaluated therapies in the adjuvant and metastatic setting. Dr. Mauro was co-awarded several grants to study treatment-related issues such as neuropathy, insomnia, and quality of life in breast cancer patients. She served on the cancer committee and breast program leadership committee for the George Washington University Hospital. Dr. Mauro is a highly-regarded educator and mentor to medical students, residents and fellows, and she has been named as a Top Doctor in Washingtonian for multiple years.
Dr. Mauro works with the multi-disciplinary group of breast cancer physicians at Inova to provide the highest level of patient care and access to the newest treatments and clinical trials. Her goal is to give her patients a full understanding of their disease and treatment options, providing them comfort and confidence in their plan of care.
A native of Chapel Hill, North Carolina, Dr. Mauro currently resides in Washington, DC with her husband and two sons. In her spare time, she likes to run, read, waterski, play soccer with her children and travel with her family.
