Read Dr. Scriven’s personal statement below

I was driven to be a surgeon because of my desire to have a career where I could have a direct, positive impact in people’s lives. I also wanted to be in an environment where I am constantly challenged and have the opportunity to continually learn.

I want each and every one of my patients to leave the office feeling well informed about their medical problem and the options available to them for treatment. If their treatment includes surgery, I want them to understand why they need surgery, how it will be performed, and what to expect during their recovery. The most important aspect of any surgery is to perform it safely, minimizing any risks for the patient. I love to stay on the cutting edge of surgical care and do so by talking with my colleagues all across the country, staying up to date with surgical journals, and attending conferences.

When I am not with my patients, I love to spend my time with my lovely wife and three beautiful daughters.
