Dr. Melanie Subramanian is a general thoracic surgeon who is board certified in general surgery and board eligible in thoracic surgery. She joined the Inova thoracic surgery faculty in 2024.
Dr. Subramanian has expertise in surgery for lung cancer, esophageal cancer, hiatal hernia surgery, diaphragm disorders, chest wall deformities, airway surgery, mediastinal surgery, foregut surgery, and minimally invasive thoracic surgery. She has a special interest in robotic minimally invasive thoracic surgery.
Dr. Subramanian performed her undergraduate studies at Duke University and graduated from Harvard Medical School in 2015. After graduating medical school, she joined the general surgery residency program at Washington University School of Medicine/Barnes Jewish Hospital. She completed a dedicated two-year research fellowship where she also obtained a Masters of Population Health Science. After her residency, she completed a cardiothoracic surgery fellowship at Washington University School of Medicine.
