Our facility is family-centered, meaning our medical providers and family members work together as partners to provide the best possible care for your child. We encourage you to stay with your child in our kid-friendly treatment rooms which are equipped with advanced medical equipment sized to fit children from infancy to young adulthood, iPads, DVD players and more.
Should your child need to be admitted into the hospital for specialized care, our pediatric inpatient unit is just footsteps away. For those patients in need of critical care, we have a streamlined process for stabilizing and transporting children to the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) at Inova L.J. Murphy Children’s Hospital.
The Inova Loudoun team includes board certified pediatric emergency physicians, pediatricians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, and pediatric nurses certified in Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS).

At Inova Loudoun Hospital, we know that little differences can make a big difference in your child's care. That's why we have a team of Child Life Specialists and a full-time facility dog on staff.
Inova Child Life Specialists are trained professionals dedicated to easing children’s stress and anxieties during a hospital stay or outpatient procedure.
Educated in child development and family systems, Child Life Specialists promote effective coping through play, procedural preparation, education, and self-expressing activities. They provide emotional support for families and encourage optimal development of children facing a broad range of challenging experiences–particularly those related to healthcare and hospitalization.
Jeremiah is Inova Loudoun Hospital’s loveable full-time facility dog and an integral part of our Child Life team. His job is to make our pediatric patients smile while in the hospital. He works about 40 hours per week and has made an incredibly positive impact on all of our pediatric patients, but he’s especially great with our special needs patients.

Autism and Special Sensory Needs in the ER: "Sensory Friendly Program"
Does Your Child Have Special Sensory Needs? Visiting an Emergency Room is often challenging for kids, but for those with a sensory processing disorder (SPD) – such as autism – we know that the experience can be particularly difficult. That's why the Children's ER at Inova Loudoun Hospital developed our sensory-friendly program.
In partnership with the Paxton Campus, George Washington University, and our Outpatient Specialty Rehabilitation Center, we've designed a comprehensive sensory-friendly training program for our emergency room staff. We've also implemented new protocols and physical modifications to our department in an effort to significantly reduce sensory problems for our children and their families.
Our rooms are equipped with dimmed lighting and soft music; unnecessary medical equipment is removed from the child's sight; and sensory-friendly items like weighted blankets, iPads, fidget toys and story boards are readily available for families.
In an effort to better communicate with your child, we ask that parents/guardians complete a parental intake form at check-in outlining the child's preferred communication style, motivators, stressors, and sensory challenges.
