Breastfeeding is one of the most important decisions you will make for yourself and your baby. The International Board Certified Lactation Consultants® (IBCLCs) at Inova Women's Hospital are here to help you succeed and make breastfeeding a satisfying experience.
Prenatal breastfeeding services
- InovaWell prenatal breastfeeding classes
- Prenatal consults with a breastfeeding medicine specialist for mothers with medical problems that could cause breastfeeding difficulty
Lactation services during your stay
- Bedside breastfeeding evaluations and problem solving as needed
- Neonatal intensive care nursery visits for premature infants or infants with special needs
- Multidisciplinary team approach to breastfeeding issues with your obstetrician/nurse
Outpatient breastfeeding services
- In-person breastfeeding support group and latch checks
- Tuesdays 2 – 3 p.m.
- Classes takes place in a group setting. Females only please.
- Participation is free and registration is not required.
- Mothers can meet on the 5th floor lobby of the women’s and children’s tower.
- Parking in the Green garage is complimentary.
- Patients can attend for a collaborative group discussion with other breastfeeding mothers which is facilitated by a lactation consultant. Scales are available for self-conducted weighted feeds. Basic latch checks are available.
- Tuesdays 2 – 3 p.m.
- Lactation consultation with certified IBCLC Registered Nurse available by appointment in the Women's Boutique. A service fee applies. Appointments can be scheduled by calling 703-776-6455.
