Garima Sharma, MD, Program Director

Inova Women’s Cardiovascular Fellowship program

Dr. Garima Sharma is Director of Cardio-Obstetrics and Director of Cardiovascular Women’s Health at Inova Health System, an Inova Schar Heart and Vascular and Inova Women’s collaborative program. She is board certified in cardiovascular disease and sees women with cardiac disease during pregnancy; treats hypertension, spontaneous coronary artery disease (SCAD) and lipid abnormalities; and works with patients with risk factors for severe cardiovascular disease who are in menopausal transition.

Her clinical and research areas of interest include pregnancy, preeclampsia, maternal obesity, health disparities, postpartum prevention of complications from hypertensive disorders of pregnancy, spontaneous coronary artery dissection, cardiovascular health in women, and gender inequities in science and medicine.

Program overview

Apply to our comprehensive didactic and experiential training in cardio-obstetrics and women’s cardiovascular health at the Inova Center of Personalized Health and Inova Women’s Hospital on the Inova Fairfax Medical Campus in Falls Church, VA.

Our program offers:

  1. Focused training in clinical and translational research in a sex and gender-based lens across the lifespan for internal medicine graduates
  2. Comprehensive cardio-obstetrics training in high-risk cardiovascular disease patients and optimization of postpartum cardiovascular health in collaboration with maternal-fetal medicine, critical care, heart failure and electrophysiology
  3. Training for future leaders in women’s cardiovascular health with integration of preventive cardiology, cardio-oncology, adult congenital heart disease, heart failure and menopause transition in women across the lifespan
  4. Required participation in Inova Cardiology Fellowship lectures, journal club leadership and research focused on women’s cardiovascular health
