Bringing home a new baby is an exciting time. It is also a good time to learn about the different kinds of support that are available to new parents from organizations and agencies throughout the community. That is what Beginning Steps for Parents at Inova Women's Hospital is all about.
Our program is a first-ever collaborative regional effort to share information about these varied health, education and social services that benefit children from all backgrounds and cultures.
Beginning Steps for Parents seeks to promote healthy infant/child development, enhance parenting skills and strengthen families' ties to surrounding community resources. All first-time parents giving birth at Inova Women's Hospital who qualify may participate in the program. Parents who are eligible are visited in the hospital by a program representative.
The program is voluntary and free of charge. Examples of services available:
- WIC
- Health Department
- Mental health
- Immunizations
- Childcare
- Housing
- Insurance
- Parenting programs
- ESL/translation
Beginning Steps for Parents is part of Inova Fairfax Hospital's Case Management Department. We partner with the following community-based organizations to provide services to families:
