Inova is now offering virtual visits for both our Medical Weight Loss and Bariatric Surgery Programs. We want to make it as easy as possible for you to access weight loss services once you have made your decision to get started. What can I expect?

Patients will receive 1:1 interaction with clinicians including: Board-certified bariatricians, board-certified surgeons, nurse program coordinator, behavioral health professionals, Registered Dietitians and certified exercise specialists. Patients in the 12 or 6 week program will also have access to an online support group.

What do I need at home for this virtual program?

All you need is Internet access and a scale.

How will I communicate with the team outside of appointments?

Patients can communicate with our team via dedicated email address, phone calls, or through MyChart messaging.

Medical Weight Loss Program

Anyone with a BMI greater than 25 is eligible to have a virtual visit for the Inova Medical Weight Loss Program.

  • 1:1 nutrition appointments for patients participating in programs or individual 1:1 weight management consults
  • Behavioral health appointments for surgical patients and general weight management
  • 1:1 personal training
  • 12 and 6 week medical weight loss – meal replacement program
  • 12 week program: Exercise consult and a consult with the registered dietitian are conducted prior to starting the program. Once a participant starts their 12 weeks, they will have weekly lectures with a clinician (live and recorded option), 1:1 consults with dietitian and exercise at 3 weeks and 10 weeks, frequent exercise offerings on support page
  • 6 week program: Nutrition and exercise consult bi- weekly
  • Option to see bariatrician (MD) or clinicians as needed

Bariatric Surgery Program

In order to schedule a virtual visit, individuals must have a BMI greater than 35 with comorbidities, or a BMI of 40 with or without comorbidities.

Bariatric Surgery program patients can receive the following services on their virtual visit:

  • Pre-surgical consults with surgeon
  • Pre-operative and post-operative nutrition appointments and support
  • Pre-surgical psych evaluations
  • Behavioral health consults and support
  • Post-surgical follow up appointments with surgeons and nurse practitioner

Patients will have a consult with the surgeon.

After the visit, insurance requirements will dictate the series of appointments required with the nurse practitioner, dietitians, behavioral health and exercise physiologist.
