Inova Fairfax Medical Campus Department of Medicine has a long tradition of dedication to Graduate Medical Education throughout the region. We started our own home grown Internal Medicine Residency Program in 2014 and graduated our first class in 2017. Prior to that inception, our dedication to teaching excellence and commitment was exemplified by our affiliation with George Washington University and Georgetown University Internal Medicine Residency Programs as their required clinical rotations on our inpatient wards and coronary care unit. Despite the youth of our program, we are fortunate to recruit and sustain our own Inova residents and have markedly condensed our affiliate rotators.
For our trainees there exists an established academic infrastructure consisting of teaching rounds, morning report, noon conference, morbidity and mortality conference, medical grand rounds, chief of service rounds and physical diagnosis rounds. The program is supported by two to three chief medical residents and a dedicated group of faculty with a balance of general internists and medical specialists.
