NICHE's collaborative nurse-driven approach to senior care draws on the unified expertise of an elderly patient's entire team of caregivers.
Using NICHE guidelines, nurses, physicians, pharmacists, rehabilitation therapists, social workers, dietary staff and others work together to provide the most coordinated, effective care possible.
NICHE develops expertise among clinicians by offering specialized geriatrics education in topics critical to the care of seniors, including normal changes of aging, pharmacology, nutrition, and cognition. At Inova Fairfax Hospital, more than 15 registered nurses received NICHE preparation for geriatrics certification and went on to become certified in gerontologic nursing.
NICHE originated in 1992 at the Hartford Institute for Geriatric Nursing at New York University College of Nursing and has become internationally recognized for successfully improving care of seniors in the hospital. Learn more about NICHE
