Treatment for neurotrauma injuries requires a high level of medical expertise and responsiveness. Inova Fairfax Hospital provides the highest level of skilled treatment required for neurotrauma around the clock, 365 days a year. The medical campus is home to Inova Regional Trauma Center, the only Level 1 trauma center for adults and children in Northern Virginia. Level 1 is a designation awarded to trauma centers offering the highest, most comprehensive level of trauma care available.
Inova's comprehensive Neurotrauma and Neurocritical Care Services team works hand-in-hand with the trauma center team. From the moment a trauma helicopter lands at Inova Fairfax Hospital or an ambulance pulls into the bay, the neurotrauma team is equipped with the most advanced technology to treat patients both medically and surgically.
Our experts include world-class neurosurgeons, spine surgeons, emergency physicians, neurologists, critical care specialists, anesthesiologists, nurses, and a breadth of other specialties.
If neurosurgery is required, Inova's specialized neuro-operating rooms provide the latest in imaging technology and navigation systems that allow surgeons to see inside the nervous system. Interventional neuroradiologists work in concert with the neurosurgical team in the endovascular treatment of cerebrovascular emergencies such as subarachnoid hemorrhage.
Following surgery or other treatment, trauma patients may be moved to Inova Fairfax Hospital's Neurosciences Critical Care Unit (NeuroICU). This unique and highly specialized facility is the only one of its kind in the region and offers the most advanced monitoring and treatment for patients with brain injuries and neurological diseases. Full-time neurological hospitalists and critical care specialists provide the highest level of specialty care required for these patients.
