- No short-acting inhaled bronchodilators (albuterol, Proventil, Ventolin, Xopenex, Pro-Air, etc.) for eight hours prior to testing.
- No medium-acting inhaled bronchodilators (Atrovent) for 24 hours prior to testing.
- No long-acting inhaled bronchodilators or inhaled steroids including combination medications for 48 hours prior to testing (Advair, Aerobid, Asmacort, Asmanex, Pulmicort, Symbicort, Spiriva, Stiolto, Incruse, Anoro, Breo, etc.).
- No antihistamines (Allegra, Atarax, cetirizine, Clarinex, Claratin, fexofenadine, loratadine, Zyrtec, etc.) for three days prior to testing.
- No theophylline, Uniphyl or Theo-24 for 48 hours prior to testing.
- No cromolyn sodium (Intal) or nedocromil (Tilade) for eight hours prior to testing.
- No leukotriene modifiers (e.g., Singulair) for 24 hours prior to testing.
- No caffeine the day of the test (coffee, tea, sodas, chocolate).
- No smoking 24 hours prior to testing.
- Do not stop taking prescribed nasal sprays prior to the test.
- If you do not see your inhaler listed here, please ask if you need to stop using it prior to taking this test.
You cannot take this test if you are pregnant.
